Infants through Seventh Grade

"We should not hesitate to help our children see what they learn and feel here is Unitarianism and that our effort in the direction of liberal religion is born of deep commitment to life.  Through worship and through learning and through relationships with others, it is the love of life we are doing our best to help along."

                                                  Robert Doss

Church school is in session on Sunday during both the 9:30AM and 11:15AM worship services during the regular church year (September through May.)  During the summer we offer a multi-age program during our one service at 10:00 a.m. on Sundays.  Classrooms are on UUC’s lower level.

Nursery Care (Jefferson Room)

A safe and happy environment in our fully equipped nursery.

Toddlers (King Room)

Preschool

9:30AM & 11:15AMAges: approximately 2½ to 3½   years. Our preschool program offers children between the ages of 2½ and 3½  the opportunity to learn about their religious community, rituals, and traditions, make friends, have fun, and explore the world around them.  Preschool care is a cooperative effort of volunteer teachers and parents.

Spirit Play: Pre K - First Grade

9:30AM & 11:15 AM – Spirit Play is a Montessori approach to religious education. In an intergenerational community, the children are given freedom within a structure to make meaning of the big questions that they wonder about invoking their innate creativity and spirituality. The program is rich in the story-telling tradition and facilitateschildren learning in a multi-age community while, at the same time, providing opportunities to think and work independantly.

Second and Third Grades

9:30AM & 11:15 AM  Creating Home; A Tapestry of Faith Program for Children. This program helps children develop a sense of home grounded in faith.  The class will ask questions about the purpose of having a home and the functions a home serves, for us as humans and for other animals.  It is not about the outward appearances and material worth of our homes, but rather the deep sense of sacredness, the beauty of hospitality, and the gift of loving relationships that a home can represent - both a family home and a spiritual home.

 Fourth and Fifth Grades

9:30 & 11:15 AM Cosmic Explorers.  As UU’s, we draw wisdom from many sources.  In this class, the children imaginatively explore Deep Time and the history of the Earth and the Universe as an unfolding story that is their story … all 14 billion years of it.  This offers a wonder-filled opportunity to explore religious values such as community and diversity, creativity and awe.

4th & 5th graders will also be partnered with a social justice issue all year.

Middle School (Grades 6 & 7) The Middle School group is also available to 8th graders who are unable or do not wish to participate in OWL.

11:15 a.m. only - This group begins their spiritual jouney with a curriculum called Compass Points to give them a framework and context for religion as a whole and to begin to delve more deeply into Unitarian Universalism history and beliefs and what they, themselves, believe. Then, they will learn about other faiths using the Neighboring Faiths curriculum and some field trips to other faiths' houses of worship. The middle school group will also have several fun, community building activities spaced throughout the year.  Middle school youth are all welcome at these whether they attend classes or not.
