Have you always wanted to learn how to ring handbells? Back by popular demand…this class will teach you the basics of ringing skills, the techniques of how handbell ringers get various sounds from handbells, teamwork while playing handbells, and a listening session of other ensembles. This “taste” will give you all you need to consider if you want to take a more in-depth study of this musical expression. Just a Taste of Handbells is open to people older than 10 and younger than 115. Session: 1 Fee: $5.00 Dates: Sunday March 7 or Time: 1:00 – 3:00 PM Monday April 5th Time: 7:00 – 9:00 PM Facilitator: Nick Barnard has played handbells for a total of nine years, tutored individuals, and led multiple small groups. | ||

All are welcome to join the Art Committee for a reception for our April artists on Sunday, April 11 from 1-3 pm. Maggie Booth will be showing prints and drawings in Gilmartin. They are quiet in tone, with textures, lines, and colors that reflect the artist's curiosity with nature. The Contemporary Quilt Art Association will be showing fabric creations in the Chapel. Quilt designs may be geometric, figurative, or abstract, and they may be beaded or painted with dyes or appliquéd. They are guaranteed fun to look at! Refreshments will be served, artwork is for sale, and a portion of each sale benefits UUC. | ||

This class will acquaint persons with the founding and developing beliefs of Unitarians and Universalists. Particular attention will be given to their history in the United States since the late 1700’s. The course may serve as a panorama of beliefs in which individuals may find both grounding and encouragement for their own personal religious/spiritual core. Learning about the historical development of these two faith traditions may also induce a sense of appreciation about the accomplishments and current challenges of Unitarian Universalism. This class will introduce meditation through a series of meditation and discussion. The emphasis will be the role of meditation in stress relief and spiritual practice. No previous experience with meditation is required. This class is appropriate for youth and adults. Please bring your own sack lunch and meditation cushion or pad. Session: 1 Fee $7.00 Date: Saturday April 17th Time: 9 AM to 3 PM Maximum: 12 Minimum 5 Facilitator: Mark Lee coordinates the Wednesday UUC Meditation Group and has been teaching the ARE Introductory Meditation class for the past 8 years. Join us on April 19 for a presentation by Dr. Elizabeth Phelan on Fall Preventions. Dr. Phelan is a geriatrician and her sobering research on falls indicates that more accidental deaths in the elderly Senior Focus is a monthly program (September-June) that nourishes our brains with a speaker for one hour, and our bodies with a buffet lunch afterward. Darwin: Both Right and Wrong Thursday, April 22, 2010 Dr. Joe Felsenstein will discuss where Darwin fits into current work in evolutionary biology. While Darwin got a great many things right, there are areas where he was wrong and much has been discovered since his time. Are his central arguments still correct? Joe Felsenstein, Ph.D. is a Professor in the Departments of Genome Sciences and Biology at the Univ. of WA. Join is in Knatvold 7 pm. | ||
