Author of The Four Stages of Hope, Cathleen Fanslow-Brunjes is an internationally acclaimed expert in the fields of death, dying, grief, and hospice care. This workshop will introduce a process that enables families, friends, and professional caregivers to understand and assist the dying on their journey. UUC’s Care Team is co-sponsoring this event as a training for its members, and it is open to other interested members and friends of UUC. ART RECEPTION SUNDAY, MARCH 7 The Art Committee invites everyone to a reception for our March artists on Sunday, March 7 from 1-3 pm. Dick McMahon takes gorgeous, up-close and intimate color photos of natural and manmade objects, among other subjects; all of his photos are shot on film. Doughlas Remy creates abstract 3-D mixed-media wall-art composed of fused glass, resin, and small objects that showcase the artist's delight with color, texture, form and pattern. Refreshments will be served, artwork is for sale, and a portion of each sale benefits the church. Start: 1:00 pm

Rituals are a great way to give you and your children some anchors in this fast paced challenging world of ours!! Jan Faull, a local parenting educator, believes that traditions and rituals help solidify the family unit and ground children to know “this is who I am and this is what I do.” With this 2 hour session you can learn the process for giving your family this sense of place and self. Sessions: 1 Fee: $5.00 Dates: Sunday March 7 Time: 2:00-4:00 Facilitator: Beth Herrild, UUC Director of Religious Education. Beth is the author of Comfortable Chaos: Forget Balance and Make Career and Family Choices That Work for You, published in 2005. She wrote an article on family traditions and rituals that appeared in Parent Map magazine in 2008. She is also a freelance writer for Parent Map magazine. | ||

SUNDAY, MARCH 14 CELEBRATE REV. JON M. LUOPA’S 10th ANNIVERSARY AT UUC On Sunday, March 14, our congregation will be celebrating Jon's 10th anniversary at University Unitarian Church by making that Sunday “Jon Luopa Day.” The celebration will include two very special morning services at 9:30 and 11:15 am with an all-church reception for Jon between services, beginning at 10:30 am. In addition, we will be hosting a potluck dinner in the chapel that evening to toast Jon's anniversary with stories, song, and celebration, looking back on the wonderful gifts Jon has shared with us over the past ten years. The March 15th Senior Focus will feature UU member Amanda Lane sharing her experiences in Jordan where she lived for 7 years and was involved in humanitarian work. Presentation at 11 am and lunch at noon. Please register in office for lunch. Senior Focus is a monthly program (September-June) that nourishes our brains with a speaker for one hour, and our bodies with a buffet lunch afterward. We usually meet on the third Monday of the month. | ||

FRIENDSHIP AND CARING Let’s create a community of friendship and caring! All women from UUC are invited, so if you know someone who might be interested in coming, please let her know. Come gather for conversation, connection, and food. Bring a dish to share. Meetings start with a potluck, then conversation and group discussion. GRINNELL COLLEGE SINGERS Wednesday, March 24, 7:30 pm Over the last decade, the Grinnell Singers have distinguished themselves as an ensemble that performs innovative and adventurous repertoire from a wide variety of choral traditions. In the last five years, they have premiered twenty choral works. In 2006, they commissioned an extended unaccompanied work from the 2005 Pulitzer Award winner, Steven Stucky. The Grinnell Singers received a grant from the “Meet the Composers” foundation for this commission, in a consortium of professional choirs that included the Kansas City Chorale, the Phoenix Bach Choir, and the Seattle Pro Musica. The Singers completed a concert tour of Romania, Bulgaria, and Istanbul in March of 2006. | ||

KICK-OFF FOR TEAM UUC YEAR 5: POTLUCK WITH A PURPOSE Tuesday, March 30th, 6:30-8:30 pm Knatvold Room All women - whether newcomer or returning, hesitant exerciser or jock - are invited to set personal goals for this season with Team UUC. Expanding our focus, we are adding coaching and camaraderie for walk/run or bike events, in addition to triathlons. At this potluck, Lu-Ann Branch will coach us on strategies to enhance our time management and set training plans to help us reach the finish line! Questions?
