"The God Strategy: Faith As a Political Weapon"
Religion has long been a significant part of American politics. For much of this history, the confluence of faith and politics has been a alrgely symbolic practice, without distinctly partisan motivations. But something has changed in recent decades. On issue after issue, U.S. public debate today includes, and often is dominated by, faith-based perspectives espoused by politically adept individuals and organizations. This lecture will examine how and why this occurred and what it means for democracy.
This single session introduces UUC, its programs, and what membership means. The class will provide an overview of our faith tradition.
There is no cost for this class. Childcare is available, if requested in advance.

This week: FPA Great Decisions-Engaging the Enemy; Who are They?
Are you struggling to cope with the recent or past loss of a loved one? This support group will provide a comforting environment in which you may explore your feelings safely, gain information on the grieving process and know that you are not alone in the experience of loss.
Six sessions on Thursday afternoons.

We are constantly being bombarded with messages about what is wrong in the world. From global warming to rising oil prices, from fear of terrorist attacks, the list goes on and on. Andrew Smallman, director ot the innvoative Puget Sound Community School will tell us how he believes a humanistic approach to education addresses these problems and more.

At this meeting, Matt Youngmark, from the American Civil Liverties Union of Washington will bring us upt o date on the status of our civil liberties.
