Take Action on "Secure Communities"

The federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is rolling out a controversial program which requires local law enforcement to share fingerprints on every arrested individual. This targets both documented and undocumented residents for racial profiling and for deportation, even if they are ultimately charged or convicted of no crime. Find out how to take action on this important civil rights issue in our community.

Prevent devastating state budget cuts

A major shakeup in the Senate threw the budget process into disarray as the Legislature enters the final days of the session. As a result, basic survival services are at risk for the most vulnerable people in our state. Our denomination's state legislative advocacy organization, Washington UU Voices for Justice, is urgently asking UUs to contact your state legislators.

The Senate had heard its version of the budget, which was similar to the budget that had already passed the House. The two houses’ budgets provided funding for many of the environmental and social programs that preserve the quality of life in our state. However, the Senate had not voted on its budget.

Seeds of Justice volunteer opportunities

In March, UUC began a special covenanted relationship with two wonderful nonprofit organizations, Casa Latina (a grassroots organization of Latino immigrant workers) and Powerful Voices (which fosters the development and leadership of adolescent girls in/at risk of the juvenile justice system).

Over the next six months we hope as many UUC members as possible will get involved in both one-time and ongoing opportunities. Read on, learn more, get connected!

Kicking off UUC's Seeds of Justice Partnerships

Over the past few weeks we have formally covenanted with two community partners, Casa Latina and Powerful Voices, to work together to tackle the root causes of injustice. Each organization has received a $10,000 grant, and more importantly, dozens of UUC members have signed to volunteer. Learn more!
