Some of you attended the wonderful jazz benefit concert in August offered by Cindy Scott, a jazz vocalist and UU. Cindy was in town on business and organized a wonderful trio performance, and also talked about the experience of her family, congregation, and community in recovering from Hurricane Katrina.
We're delighted to report that UUC raised about $1,200 for two UU congregations in New Orleans that are still rebuilding from Hurricane Katrina. Community Church Unitarian Universalist had eight feet of water inside and was completely devastated, along with the homes of many of its members, and First Unitarian Universalist Church lost most everything after sitting for a month in four feet of water. Even after two years, neither congregation has full use of its building yet, and they are also actively helping their members and the community with recovery.
