Green Sanctuary Education

Green educational opportunities abound!

Green Sanctuary offers adult religious exploration classes that bring together environmentalism and faith. Using curriculum developed by the Northwest Earth Institute, we have offered classes on "Discovering a Sense of Place," sustainable living, and global warming. Visit the church's ARE page to find out what's coming up next.

Impact Forum, our Sunday morning speaker and discussion series, also invites you to suggest speakers and topics related to the UU seventh principle.

For children, UUC member Claudia McNeill has developed an environmentally themed curriculum, "Cosmic Explorers," which is incorporated into our church school program. Claudia is working to package it for broader use.

And for all ages, we are organizing environmental field trips. Our most recent trip was to the Wild Horse Wind Facility.

Lastly, we work to educate ourselves about ways we can better live our "respect for the inderdependent web of life" in concrete, practical ways. The Green Sanctuary Team can frequently been found at coffee hour offering resources and tips for eliminating pesticides, reducing our driving, finding locally grown food, and more. We hope to create family "toolkits" to encourage sustainable living, a list of web site links and recommended readings, and a library of resources to borrow or buy - contact Joann Kerr if you're interested in helping.
