In Solidarity with our Muslim neighbors

On Sunday, April 25, 9 middle school students and 31 adults from UUC visited the Muslim Association of Puget Sound (MAPS) in Redmond. Hosted very graciously by Omer Iqbal and others at MAPS, we learned more about Islam & Muslim culture and toured the impressive MAPS facility, which offers a large number of services to the local community.  Our group asked questions relating to Islamic religious practices, GLBTQ and women in Islam, vulnerabilities faced by Muslims, Islamic youth religious development, and a number of other topics.  After touring the facility, observing a prayer ritual, and being treated to a delicious south Asian meal, we left with greater understanding and new connections.

Thanks to Ruth Pettis and Jerome Chroman for organizing our visit, and to Justin Almeida and the RE teachers and parents for engaging the middle school youth.

In the next several weeks, MAPS will offer at least a couple of events that UUC members may wish to attend:

1)  Interfaith Friendship dinner–
