Polar Bear Plunge on New Year’s Day

Nick Barnard

Welcome in the New Year with a plunge in Lake Washington at high noon! Join me and other UUCers at this Seattle Tradition.

The Park’s department’s description:

Join us for the ginormous group plunge at “high noon” on January 1st as we welcome the new year with a sense of rejuvenation and renewal. Plungers seeking calmer waters, and “double dippers” are welcome too, with a special time just prior to the Big Plunge!

Costumes and festive energy are encouraged. Take pictures at our famous photo booth! Warm refreshments, Food Trucks! and a special-limited-edition Badge of Courage is awarded to all those who demonstrate their bravery by submerging in the icy waters of Lake Washington (at least up to their neck).

I’ve done this multiple years–it’s fun and not too cold!
