1948–Creation & Catastrophe
Sunday December 2, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in Meadowbrook Room 22
The year 1948 saw the establishment of the state of Israel after generations of Jewish persecution across Europe and Russia. But that same year proved catastrophic for the Palestinians–700,000-900,000 men, women and children were forced to leave their homes and never allowed to return. 1948 was the most pivotal year in the most controversial conflict in the world, but it is rarely mentioned on American TV, radio, or in newspapers.
This documentary aims to change that. It is based on over 90 interviews with survivors, both Palestinians and Jews, who provided first-hand accounts. The documentary is a unique look at a crucial moment in history. (Snacks will be provided.)
Please note that this documentary is also being shown on Wednesday, December 5 at 11 a.m. in the Magnuson Brig Garden Room.
